1970s Exhibition from the Clothing & Textiles Division of the Museum of Texas Tech University

Now through September 7, 2022   |  Located in the north Dillard's Court

The Clothing and Textiles Division of the Museum of Texas Tech University is pleased to participate in the South Plains Mall 50th Anniversary celebration! This exhibition features 1970s garments from the Museum’s collection, made and worn at around the time of the Mall’s opening.  1970s fashions were iconic with either explosions of color or strong graphic prints.  Styles of the 1920s and other historic events influenced 1970s fashions.  In general, the garments were of easy to wear silhouettes providing comfort and freedom of movement for their wearers.

The Clothing and Textiles Division of the Museum of Texas Tech University houses over 35,000 objects and is the largest collection at a university in the country.  The Come and See programs hosted four times a year, offer a free opportunity to see clothing and textiles collection items up close, without barriers. The Museum of Texas University is located at 3301 4th Street. Museum hours are Tuesday – Friday, 10 a.m. -5 p.m., Sunday, 1 – 5 p.m., and closed on Mondays.
