Museum of Texas Tech University Fall Fashion
Now through January 5, 2024
| Located adjacent to the north Dillard's Court
Fall and winter is the theme for this exhibit of garments drawn from over 35,000 pieces in the Clothing and Textiles Collection of the Museum of Texas Tech University. Included are the works of some of the major designers of the late 20th century. Bonnie Cashin, in particular is highlighted. Her influence on American sportswear design was tremendous. She is often credited as the inventor of “layering,” which she first mentioned in 1950. She was among the first to use metal hardware in clothing and to combine leather and fabrics in the same garment. In the 1980s her firm dispersed models of her work to over 40 museums across the country. The Museum is fortunate to have received beautiful pieces from her fall 1964-1974 lines. To aid the studies of design students at the University the patterns for these pieces and original sketches were also donated.
Selected by the students working in the Clothing and Textiles Division as graduate assistants from the museum studies program and also work-study students, these garments highlight beautiful cool weather fashion. The Clothing and Textiles Division of the Museum of Texas Tech University is the largest collection of this material at a university in the country. The Come and See programs hosted four times a year, offer a free opportunity to see clothing and textiles collection items up close, without barriers. The Museum of Texas University is located at 3301 4th Street. Museum hours are Tuesday – Friday, 10 a.m. -5 p.m., Sunday, 1 – 5 p.m., and closed on Mondays. Admission is free. For more information, please visit museum.ttu.edu or call (806) 742-2490.
